Join me as I attempt to reach Ten Man Hut. This is a little-known spot in the Tongariro Forest Conservation Area, just north of the National Park.
Keep in mind the hut is a bivvy, so is a little more basic than many huts (it's a big bivvy though!). It does have heating, and is also FREE!!! There'll hopefully be sick views of Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe in the distance! The walk to the hut from the track start is 3-4 hours one way. The track isn't the easiest, it's not marked and will require some navigation.
From Kelburn campus, we'll drive to the town of Ōwhango, and from there down backroads to the Ohinetonga Scenic Reserve, a total drive of about 4hr 15min.
Two key things to note: this trip is only going ahead if I get 10 signups, and only men are allowed (jk everyone's welcome!). Though I will limit signups to 6-8 people as the bunk has 8 bunks.
