  • AIC

    Hi all,

This weekend is AIC! It's going to be another great weekend and there are a heap of people coming along! If you haven't already please make an effort to pay this Tuesday or get in touch with Jeremy to discuss other options.

    Who's ready for some snow!!!

  • Meetings at the Welsh Dragon

    Hi all,

Since the University has closed up shop for the semester (save for exams) we'll be meeting at the Welsh Dragon pub each week until July.

    Tuesdays from 7:30pm.
    Welsh Dragon
Cnr Courtney Place and Cambridge Terrace

This weekend we have the possibility of a Southern Crossing in the Tararuas or a days climbing out a Baring Head if the weather is good

  • Bushball review + Queens Birthday

Bushball over the weekend was a success by my standards. A hearty walk in carrying ridiculous amounts of gear, a quick lunch and then onto setting up lights, generator, cables, shelter etc… Haha followed by a quick nap on my part before you lot arrived to enjoy the fruits of our labour and have a great night.

As usual there was plenty of dancing to be done, lots of gossip and the odd drama. We even had a good walk out down the river to the coast on Sunday since it was too dangerous to cross. A couple of hours help from some local families and we were all on our way back to Wellington. (Having had our cars towed across the ford at the Catchpool road end)

This weekend is Queens Birthday which makes it a long weekend and an opportunity for some longer trips.

If you have any lost property from Bushball then come along on Tuesday to collect it.

  • It's that time of year again

    This weekend is bushball!!!!

The number one social event of the year! It's open invitation so bring all your friends and flatties. Tickets only $10 which go towards getting you a fantastic location, stereo, lights, food and refreshments. The more people that come along the better the event will be! Tickets can be purchased at the meeting on Tuesday or, if necessary, before you leave on Saturday.

If you're coming simply show up on Saturday at Hunter carpark at  1:30pm and the rest will be sorted for you :)

This weeks meeting is full of exciting events as a bit of a warm up to Bush Ball. We're also fund raising for charity so bring along a few coins for some betting fun with all proceeds going to charity.

Who is the clubs champion arm wrestler?
Who can perform the fastest table traverse?
    The ultimate 2L challenge race?!?!?!
and more exciting tramping / Bush Ball orientated events...

  • Gear Gear Gear

This week is all about gear. Come along to find out about some essential tramping kit. Compass, cooker, first aid, tent and maybe more. At the same time we'll be looking at what needs replacing and in the near future fixing as much up as we can meaning there will be more there for everyone to be using :)

Don't forget the gear buy night on Thursday 14th (next week) .

And Bushball 23 - 24 May. Invite your flatties, your friends (or if your like me and have neither then just bring yourself!!!) Tickets only $10.

  • Gourmet 1

This weekend we have the first Gourmet trip of the year. Gourmet this year will involve a fairly short and easy walk to a good sized hut (yet to be decided), and preparation of gourmet tramping food for a dinner of kingly proportions. And of course such a feast will be accompanied by a good few tasty beverages.

If this sounds like fun to you then come along on Tuesday (back up at the University) to find out more and to sign up. If you can't make it to the meeting please get in touch with the organiser, Morgan (morgan_84@msn.com), directly.

We'll be annoucing the special deals that RnR have put together for the gear buy night at this weeks meeting too...

  • Welsh Dragon agin this week

    Hi all,

As the uni holidays are still on this week we'll be meeting at the Welsh Dragon again on Tuesday. Come on down for a quiet drink, to sign up for this weekends trip or just to enjoy the company :)

  • Meetings at the pub

For the next two weeks we will be meeting at the Welsh Dragon on Courtney Place. We do this during all University holidays. Come along, have a beer and enjoy the more informal setting.

This coming weekend we are heading somewhere a bit closer to home. The Rimutakas are directly across the harbour from Wellington and also offer some interesting tramping. Ideally we'll get up Papatahi (902m) and if enough people are keen attempt a traverse. Ideally we'll have 6 - 10 people keen to do a medium-fit / fit trip.

Come along on Tuesday from 7:30 or email me directly to sign up.

  • Easter == twice the tramping!!!

Easter is a great chance for the club to get out for some longer tramping and go a bit further a field. This year we are headed to the Kawekas. The Kawekas are located on the East Coast of the North Island, near Napier. They also contain some hot pools which can be a nice stop on the last day if you're in the right area.

We'll be having a wee bit of a trivia night this week to see how much you all know about Easter and it's importance to tramping in New Zealand...

  • Rockcraft II

    Hi all,

This weekend we have two days of rock climbing planned up North. Come along to the meeting to find out more and learn some more basic climbing skills.

    Plus more exciting things like:

    • Has Jason finally gotten rid of his cold...
    • Is Craigs arm still attached to his body...

Oh and did I mention that every trip report that gets written is rewarded with some yummy chocolate? So first in first served for trips reports from last weekend!!!

  • Configure Email Alerts

I've been made aware that some people are having trouble with the email alerts sent out from the website follow news items, new forums, or new postings to a forum. Without having a look around in the account of someone who is having trouble I can recommend you check the following things:

    1) http://vuwtc.org.nz/cs/user/EditProfile.aspx - Make sure "Recieve Emails" and "Enable email notifications..." are both set to YES and you have a valid email address in "Private Email"

    2)  http://vuwtc.org.nz/cs/blogs/vuwtc/emailsubscriptions.aspx - To recieve emails when someone adds a news item to the site set this to "new posts and articles only", if you want to also get an additional email each time someone comments on a news item then choose the bottom option.

    3)  http://vuwtc.org.nz/cs/forums/ForumSubscriptions.aspx - Make sure there is a check next to each forum that you wish to receive email updates for

    4) For each forum there is a "More Options" button right at the bottom of the page. If you click this a box appears that has as its last option "Send Email". My understanding of how these options should work is that "new topics" will only give you an email for each new forum that is added. "new posts" should give you an email for each new forum, and each post that is made.

  • Rock on

    Greetings all,

I trust the weekends climbing and partying has left everyone in high spirits. The few reports I've heard so far include:

    "Great spot for climbing"
    "Best day of my life"
"Party wasn't the same with out you [Jason] making an ass of yourself"

Ok ok so I made a few of those up... I haven't had a chance to catch up with anyone about how it all went but I'm sure it was great. Not that anyone cares but I had a fantastic weekend up in Auckland enjoying the much warmer, sunnier weather and rocking out at the best concert I've been too!!!

This weekend we have a good ol' Tararua tramp to Dorset Ridge (see post here) and the usual climbing shenanigans. We'll be having a quick run down on the club website at the meeting which shouldn't take too long and I'll show you how to configure the email alerts you recieve and a few other bits and pieces.

  • Crazy Climbing

    Hi all,

Freshers last weekend was a great success with a group of 40+ people heading to Totara Flats. We camped out both nights and were quite lucky with the weather which allowed a couple of swims, a good old camp fire and some general sillyness in the outdoors. All in all I think everyone enjoyed themselves and I everyone seemed very keen to come back for more.

This weekend we have a day of rock climbing at Baring Head plannedm, but even if you don't climb you should be coming along for the beach, the weather and a day out of the city. Also on Saturday we have the opening party of the year. This promises to be a great event and will certainly be setting the tone for this years future parties.

On Wednesday we are having an intro to climbing night at Fergs. This is pretty informal where we will pair you up with another climber and let you loose to have a bit of fun. There should be a good selection of experienced club members dotted about to help you out, and as always the friendly staff at Fergs will be on hand.

Come along to the meeting to find out more...

  • Opening Meeting

    Hi all,

Just a quick reminder to everyone that the opening meeting is tomorrow night (Tuesday 7:30pm) in the Student Union Building, Meeting Rooms 1 & 2. If you're keen to join the club or just to find out more about what we do then this is the time and place for that.

Membership is $20 for students, $30 for non-students. This goes towards club administration, but in return it gets you access to club gear for club trips, discounts around town and cheap climbing at Fergs.

This weekend we have Freshers our start of the year trip. It's a relatively easy trip but at the same time is a great introduction to the club and tramping in the bush. Freshers costs $30 and this goes towards covering your transport and a BBQ on Sunday. You must pay at the meeting if you wish to come along. If you can't pay tomorrow night but still want to come along then please get in touch with me  personally as we may be able to work something out.

Thats all, see you all tomorrow.

  • Goodbye!

    Hey everyone,

I'm about to leave the country :) So don't bother trying to contact me on my mobile or work email anymore (should have same details when I come back in September though), just use my personal email patonomatic@gmail.com or facebook!

Will keep in touch and send lots of updates. See yous in six months!
