Current Events, Plea for Gear, and Bribery- another week in VUWTC

Hey guys and gals, lots of stuff going on over the next few weeks, so be sure to come along to the meeting tomorrow and get the low-down on all the exciting plans! Meeting in SUB meeting rooms 1&2 this week, with a guest speaker who’s going to share a bit of tramping history and some classic tunes!

In the works are snow caving (this weekend), stuart island tramping, takaka climbing, and southern alps ascents (uni holidays). Other trips may be planned spontaneously too, so keep a weather ear on the website forums.

Also, PLEASE BRING BACK GEAR!!! With all these trips going away it is critical that we get all the club gear back in the gear-shed, especially alpine and climbing gear. Kieran will be down at the gear-shed (behind the student job search building) tomorrow before the meeting.

Cheers all, and don’t forget to write a trip report after your crazy alpine adventures, mad bush bashing, you will be rewarded!

Tonight's Meeting

Hey all- Tonight's meeting is once again at B4 @ Mckenzies at 7. The company is good and the beer is cheep (2 for 1!). A trip for this weekend is in the works but needs some keen people and drivers, and there will be details about AIC and Midwinter. There should also be a chance to laugh at the crazy x-dressers from last weekend, tease annabel about forgetting her lunch, and plan crazy exam-period fun :)

This Weekend: Hut-bagging!

Hey all, this weekend is hut-bagging, a truely tramping sport and tons of fun! Plans are leave the VUWTC sheep baaa-ing in as many tararua hut books as possible, and we need all the people we can get! All levels of tramps will be going out, so theres something for everyone.

Come along to the meeting this tuesday for more info, and for ritchie's awsome slide show!

Easter Holiday Excitement!

Happy April everybody, and welcome to a month that’s chocker with trips of all shapes and sizes!

This weekend coming is the Easter holidays, and there are several north island trips in the works, including long and short trips in the Kawekas and the Tararuas. Check the forums on the website for current info on these trips (both club and non-club).

The next two weeks are the uni Easter holidays, and there are lots of trips planned, so don’t miss out! Club trips include a day-trip to Somes island on the 14th, the Club Challenge on the 15th, kayaking in Picton during the second week, and Gourmet (!!!) on the last weekend. Other trips will be taking off at various times and include mountain climbing on the south island and various north island trips.

Come along to the meeting tomorrow to track down people going on trips you’re interested in, or follow along with the website forums and contact people from there.

This weeks meeting will discus the club trips coming up and include an Easter Egg Hunt!

Weekly Update

Hey Hey All! Last weekend will be a hard act to follow J (note the sun, climbing, bbq, and decidedly awesome party) but here’s what’s in the works this week.

Meeting: this week's meeting has lots planned, so dont miss out! A brief run-through of the website for those of us technically challenged, some practise with cool equipment (from our newly organized gear shed!) and information on this week's club trip as well as upcoming and holiday events.

Tramping: Bushcraft is this weekend! This is a great tramp where we wander the beautiful Tararuas while learning all sorts of fun and useful skills such as navigating (i.e. away from a pot of bowl-bending vegetarian food), river-crossing (i.e. what to do when swing bridges get boring) and general safety practices (like how to avoid crazy trip leaders). This year should be especially great as there are rumors that the easter bunny has taken up residence somewhere around otaki forks. Come along to the Tuesday meeting for more information and to sign up or see BUSHCRAFT, or if unable to come, e-mail the trip leader.

Climbing: Despite appearances, the tramping club does not encourage people to drop out of uni or work to become a full-time rock-head. Those ropes are expensive.

Tuesday night bouldering in the rec center long-room, 5:30 till 7.

Wednesday night climbing at Fergs, from 5:00.

Thursday night canyoning in the hutt, contact our climbing officer for more details.

First Meeting and First Tramp of the year!

Our first meeting is taking place tonight, Tuesday 6th of March, starting at 7.30pm in Meeting rooms 1&2 of the Student Union Building. Come along to find out more about the club and the first tramp of the year - Freshers.

Freshers is our first trip of the university year and it is an absolutely fantastic trip! The trip is on the weekend of 10th/11th of March (this weekend!). Freshers is going away to the wonderful Totara flats in the Tararua forest park. There will be fun, swimming and even a BBQ at the end. It's a great opportunity to get to know people and get a taste for what the club has to offer. So come along tonight and sign up. See here for more details.
