Hey all,

our first tramping trip, 'Freshers', is coming up this weekend 12-14 March. This is an introductory level trip to Totara Flats in the Tararuas and is a great chance to come along, see what tramping is all about and meet lots of people! There will be plenty of (hopefully) good weather, campfires, swimming, the odd drink or two and, well, some walking through the NZ bush!

The cost is $30 (to pay for bus and bbq at the end), we will be leaving Friday night and returning Sunday evening.

If you're interested come to the meeting on Tuesday (7.30pm, meeting rooms 1 & 2 of Student Union building) to find out more, sign up and pay. If you really can't make the meeting then email me at patonomatic@gmail.com by midday Wednesday to express your interest (please include name, phone number and any dietary preferences + contact details of a friend/relative we can contact in the event of an emergency).

Freshers!

Our first trip of the year is an easy introductory tramp into Totara Flats in the Tararuas 12-14 March

Cost: $30 to cover bus and Sunday BBQ (pay at meeting or Friday)

To sign up: enter your details in the ‘Sign up for Freshers’ form at the meeting or email Kieran at patonomatic@gmail.com to confirm a place.

Meeting time/place: 6.45pm Friday night at the Hunter Carpark (between Student Union and brick Hunter building at VUW Kelburn Campus). Please have your dinner first and be prompt as the bus will depart at 7.

The tramp: On Friday night we camp where the bus drops us, and have a few drinks and marshmallows round the campfire. On Saturday we walk 4-5 hours up the river valley to Totara Flats, where there is excellent swimming and camping. On Sunday we head up Totara Creek and over the hill to Holdsworth carpark (5-6 hours) where a BBQ and bus back to Wellington awaits us.

Your group: you will be assigned a group and leader, who will contact you about arranging a shared dinner for Saturday night. Please direct any other enquiries about the trip to your leader.

Gear: group gear such as cookers, pots, tent flies, groundsheets and first aid kits will be provided by the club. You should bring some sturdy footwear, a pack, sleeping bag, bed roll, warm clothes and raincoat, as well as your own breakfast, lunches, snacks (and drinks) for two days.
