    Tramping 27-29 March

This weekend we have the first regular weekend tramp of the 2009 calendar. Its a trip to check out the recent work done on one of the older huts in the Tararua ranges, Dorset Ridge hut, a standard forest service hut just off the tops on Dorset Ridge.

To get there involves about an 800m-1000m climb above the bushline and along the tops for a while. There may also be an easier trip/route that may or may not get to the hut but other huts in the area. The trip will therefore be harder than Freshers and will involve about 6-10 hours walking per day and a few hours walking on Friday night depending on level of trip.

The trip will also be a good warm up for the longer Easter trip.

We would be leaving Wellington on Friday night about 6pm and back in town Sunday night.

Cost would be about $15 per person. You will also need to bring along something for a group meal on Saturday night as well as most or all of the gear on our gear list.

More details and a sign up sheet will be at Tuesday's meeting.

It's highly likely there will be 2 or more groups going this weekend so as always put your name down if you are interested and be sure to indicate the level / difficulty of the trip you would like to do.

    Re: Tramping 27-29 March

Everyone who either signed up or contacted me should've by now received an email with your group people and the plan for the weekend.

Its going to be an overnight tramp to Te Matawai hut, about a 7 hour or so walk and steady 700m or so climb up onto a ridge from the road end and then along ridge to an 18 bunk hut with a fire where we will stay the night and give Jess a trampers send off and then walk out down river on Sunday.

We will meet at the Hunter car park at the University at 8.00am on Saturday morning and will be back in town sometime on Sunday evening.

The cost of the trip is $15 payable to the club, preferably on Saturday.

If you haven't received an email this may be because we have incorrectly read the contact details for you, or if you now want to come along then please let me know so that I can put you in a food group.
