New South Ohau hut. Built just next door to the old hut site, but hopefully far enough along to avoid the slip. It is nice and sunny and a pleasant enough hut in a scummy little catchment.
Sleeps: 12 or so on bench bunks.

Kiritaki (aka Sea-Mac motel) is a classic six bunk hut deep in the Leatherwood zone of the Southern Ruahines.
Sleeps: Six bunks and room on the floor.
Heating: A little pot belly that goes good. Its a snug hut.

This hut was removed by DoC in 2003 after a slip collapsed the bank behind the hut. All that remains is a concrete slab. There are plans to replace it if a sight can be found in the Ohau which is a) flat; b) not prone to slips.

Alpha Hut, a large hut on the famous Southern Crossing route. A welcome sight after the climb from Hells Saddle or dropping from the summit of Alpha.
Sleeps: at least 24 on bench bunks.
Heating: A potbelly - finding dry firewood is a real problem.
Tent space: Not really.

Andersons Memorial hut. Situated at the bush egde on the main range just below Junction Knob.
Sleeps: 6 on comfortable wooden bunks.
Heating: A new potbelly.
Camping: Some tops camping nearby (can be swampy and lots of long tussock).

Barlow was one of the last huts built in the Ruahines by the NZFS in 1983. It's a comfortable haven up the Makaroro, and sits at the bottom of Colenso spur - a historic route across the Ruahine ranges.
Sleeps: 10 or so on platforms
Heating: Corker cooker
Camping: Not a lot nearby.

This hut is a memorial hut and sits in an improbable location in a tiny northern Ruahine valley. Not often visited, and quite dark with a concrete floor.
Sleeps: Six
Heating: Burner
Camping: I don't remember a lot.

This hut was reputedly done up by DoC and then claimed by the landowners in the early 90s. If you get permission then the landowners are very friendly to trampers. The road in the foreground is No Mans road.
