This was a great place to take the family, Unfortunately D.O.C. has taken it out all together.

Now you need a tent.

Access used to be by vehicle and with the front part mowed it was quite a pleasant place to be for a quiet weekend.

Originally when it was put there by the New Zealand Forestry Service, facilities were such that it had a good pot belly stove, a kitchenette with cupboards in which of a friday night I would cook up a nice feed of rabbit stew.

a dining room, and the room next door was a good old comfy sofa with a mirror  for those who wanted to look good for the possoms.

Deer used to be in good numbers but this is now unfortunately not the case.

Progress eh?

Shame to see places like this going.  Although a lot of new huts are going in I wonder whether they are really needed in some cases.  cf new South Ohau.
