Belmont Ridge Day Walk
Date: Saturday 4 May, with Sunday 5 May as a backup if weather is bad.
Location: Belmont Regional Park, right on our doorstep!
Time: 4-6 hours
Difficulty: Easy (two climb sections but otherwise mostly flat on easy trail)
Bring: The usual daytrip stuff: lunch, snacks, water, good vibes. A rainproof and a windproof layer is a MUST, the winds are very strong on the ridgeline. A secured hat and sunscreen is also strongly recommended for the ridge.
We have Sunday as a backup day if the weather is bad, since the ridgeline is exposed and not suitable in poor weather. I'll advise closer to the day.
Track: We meet at Petone Train Station at 9am. There's a lot of public transport options to get there, and parking is available roadside on Pito-One Rd if you need it. We start along the Korokoro Stream Track, and climb up into the Western Hills to Cannon's Head. From the ridge, we have beautiful views in every direction of the Wellington region. We finish by following the ridgeline to the Belmont Trig, posing for a quick photo before we get blown away by the wind, and completing the loop back to Petone Train Station. If we're not sick of each other by then, we can optionally grab a bite to eat on Jackson Street afterwards
