Hoping to do a classic south island midwinter in the Southern Alps around Arthurs Pass. The route I'm looking at is Waimakariri-Carrington-Harman Pass-Julia Hut-Dillon's Homestead-Kelly Saddle-Highway 73, hitch back to car. https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/canterbury/places/arthurs-pass-national-park/things-to-do/tracks/harman-pass-route/. This is 4 days of walking, medium difficulty, but it will probably be a 7 day trip once we account for a day travel each way and an extra night incase of weather.
We should get some good snow cover on Harman Pass and Kelly Range but nothing super steep, technical or avalanche prone. You will need to have done at least a snowcraft course in order to come on this trip, so sign up to snowcraft 2 if you need to.
Exact dates are TBC but it will be in the middle of the break.
Midwinter trips tend to work out at $300-$400pp, which is a bargin for a week holiday in the best scenery in the world that you will remember for the rest of your life!
