Saturday, 16 October 2021 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Location: Hunter Lounge, Level 3 Student Union Building, VUW Kelburn Campus
Come along to celebrate all that the Vic Uni Tramping Club has meant to so many people over so many years - catch up with old mates and meet new ones! It should be one helluva night.
Included will be a banquet style shared meal (vegetarian, vegan, dairy and gluten free options), a free drink (or maybe 2), dessert and access to a reasonably priced bar!
Schedule
6pm: arrive, grab a drink (first one is included), mingle
7pm: sit down for dinner
8pm (or thereabouts): a series of talks about the club over the last 100 years
9pm: socialise until close
11.30pm: we get kicked out
COVID precautions
As we will (hopefully) only be in COVID alert level 2 at the time, we urge you to familiarise yourself with the rules for a private social gathering under this level. The salient points are:
- stay home if you are sick (we will happily provide you a refund)
- scan in using the COVID tracer app if you are able (or use the manual contact tracing form we will provide)
- face coverings/masks are not required, but are encouraged while not eating or drinking
Should Wellington move to a higher alert level, or face additional restrictions on gathering sizes then we will postpone the event, most likely until sometime in 2022.
Zoom link
We are going to attempt to broadcast the speakers via a zoom call to some of the people (in Auckland, Australia and elsewhere) who cannot make it on the night. It's a somewhat low tech solution so can't guarantee amazing sound or video quality, but it seemed alright when we tested it! :)
The link is
https://us04web.zoom.us/j/79233641776?pwd=VXhSY1V5cXl3RVZaMWxGV2RGc2R6dz09, if you want to pass it on to people you know who might be interested, but are not able to make it in person. Expected start time around 8pm NZDT (7am UTC) on 16 October.
Photos and presentations
If you have hard copies of photos that you would like to bring along and share, we will provide some pin boards that they can be displayed on. Please also include a caption detailing the year, people, events etc (so far as you remember!) and remember to label your photos so you can get them back!
Additionally if you have digital copies of photos, we would also like to display a running slide show on the projector - please upload these to this dropbox link (and don't worry, we will not use them online or for any other purpose without your express permission).
Finally, we intend to have a series of brief talks (around 5 minutes each, perhaps 1 - 2 per decade) to give an idea of how the club has changed (or stayed the same) over the years - trips, anecdotes, social events, other activities, the general culture or people you tramped and partied with - variety is good! Email 100@vuwtc.org.nz if you are interested.
Publication
While we have yet to produced a formal centenary publication, we will hopefully have a few copies of a rough anthology of the last 50 years - to complement the efforts of Bryan Sissons et al in VUWTC '71 (which is available on our website for your perusal at vuwtc.org.nz/about/history/vuwtc-71).
We look forward to seeing you there!
