By the time March rolls around, the warm days in wellington are few & far between & good surf at Lyall Bay is even more of a rarity. One Monday afternoon the stars aligned over the South Coast giving us some good surfing conditions & good weather on the same day. As the ancient proverb goes "you can't beat Welly on a good day". Not wanting to miss this, we packed our boards & shimmied into our wetsuits (it wasn't that warm ok).
Tuscany, Cas, Daniel & I were first on the scene. We had told others that we would meet them outside the surf club, so we had to stay there until everyone arrived. The waves were a little wicked to us, wearing us out & smashing us around a little. We had fun though, trying to surf & pretenting to be dolphins in the waves π¬

Once the others arrived we headed down the beach a bit more for a less violent place to be drowned, & had a lot of splashes & laughs. Hannah has the world's largest foamie (8ft?) so she was effortlessly catching waves while Bryn frantically paddled on Cassidy's 6'6. Sherwyn & his girlfriend are too tough for wetsuits & insisted it was "warm as" while covered in goose bumps, shivering. Alex was the real star of the show on his boogie board. He acted like what he was doing was no big deal, but he was literally spinning around & doing little jumps. I traded the surfboard for an inflatable donut & had a go at catching waves on it. The level of success was quite variable, but it did leave me both hands free to capture some sweet GoPro footage. Lochie arrived late, & as part of his usual antics decided to take the donut for a spin too.Β
