A weekend in the Ruahines, specifically the southern end (the leatherwoody bit)
In fact, it's actually the largest leatherwood forest in NZ (and hence, the world)
A-Frame hut crests the horizon, out of the mist (it's freshly renovated)
We had Buddha-bowls for dinner (the freshest vegetables some uni hall residents had eaten in months)
We explored the ridgeline (looking for a future "leatherwood race" location, it's perfect)
Played Mafia (which is hilarious when everyone's rustley raincoats make it very obvious who's who)
The next morning, a slippery and tumbley walk to Stanfield hut (also freshly renovated)
In the Stanfield hut book we find a simple Haiku:
"Drank the tank water
Shat my pants seven times
Bum is sore as now"
