DOC Glenorchy advises me that the two Pyke Camp Buildings, asbestos mining huts from the 1970s, are to be removed later in February 2007. There are two sheep entries among the scraps of paper that form the logbook - a 2001 party of Jo, Michael, Marleen, Ben, Kat, Gerard, and Dan (I think), and myself and Rebekah a week ago. If we can get DOC to retrieve and preserve the 'logbook', there is a suggestion from Stephen of OUTC to publish the entries in Antics, their club journal. There's a room full of core samples, and a trophy mounted rotor blade from a downed chopper on the site. If you'd like to visit the buildings before they disappear, you'd better get organised. Here's a photo of the site from its mining heyday.
